Author's Note: I actually never read the Life and Death book, so I'm guessing that Beau either gets a little nauseous or he helps someone down to the nurse's office. I'm going with he gets a little sick.
-----
Beau was sitting on a bed in the nurse's office, still reeling from the blood typing class.
Erica had shuffled in, helping Leann up and she laid Leann down on the cot.
A boy walked in, holding the left side of his face. He was wearing a gray shirt and black PE shorts.
He went to the nurse. "Can I get some ice, please? I got hit in the eye with a tennis ball."
The nurse nodded, "Okay. I'll be right back." He wandered off and Beau looked at the boy. The boy was tanned, maybe naturally, or maybe from playing baseball or some other outside sport. He seemed kind of scrawny, so maybe he wasn't a sports-type of person. He was probably Hispanic.
A girl, with her brown hair with her in two braids walked in. She was wearing a black shirt, with white sleeves, which had multi-colored hearts. She was wearing a denim skirt which went to mid calf length, with dark green tights which were pulled over her calves. Her face was kind of round. She was also tanned, maybe she does outside sports too. She had pink and black shoulder bag with her.
The girl looked at the boy, Daniel. "My god, what happened to you?"
"I got hit in the eye with a tennis ball," Daniel replied.
The girl, Bridget, went over and removed the boy's hand. His eye was red and was slowly darkening to a bruise color. "What? Did the person think they were joining the Olympics or something?"
Daniel shrugged, "Beats me."
"I remember playing dodge ball in middle school. I ended up with a bloody nose and a black eye because some douche bag thought he was in the Olympics." Bridget mused to herself, sounding almost fond of the past memory.
Daniel nodded and gently pulled one of Bridget's braid. "What are you doing here?"
"My mom is supposed to pick me up. Something about a dentist or doctor's appointment," Bridget replied.
The door opened and McKayla walked in. She had a band-aid on her and she looked at them. She looked over at Daniel and rushed over. "Oh, my god. What happened to you?"
"A girl thought she trying out for the Olympics and I got hit in the eye with a tennis ball." Daniel explained and shrugged. "No big deal."
McKayla looked at the black-eye. "It doesn't look that bad."
"It'll probably fade. What are you doing here?" Daniel asked, looking concerned.
"Mrs. Banner asked me to check on Beau and to say that he needs to come back to class," McKayla said. She looked at Bridget. "Where are you going?"
Bridget sighed. "My mom is taking me to a dentist or doctor's appointment."
McKayla studied her girlfriend and nodded. "Okay, well, don't do anything illegal."
"Or stupid," Daniel replied.
"Don't do anything stupid without us," McKayla said. "I'd really love to stay and chat, but I better get going. My parents wouldn't want me to skip class."
Daniel had started playing with McKayla's purple shirt, feeling sad that she had to leave. Well, there's always after school and the party thing at La Push.
McKayla kissed Daniel's black eye and his lips. She also kissed Bridget, before looking at Beau. She motioned to the door. "Mrs. Banner said that you're supposed to come back to class."
Beau grumbled and begrudgingly followed after her. He was kind of reeling on seeing McKayla kiss a guy and girl.
