Face Down
Inspiration: I was reading about how Ana and Christian's 'relationship' is abusive. I got to thinking about how Ana and her kids will one day get abused and she'll blame everyone for not warning her sooner, even though they did. I got the title from the song Face Down by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, though this one doesn't have a happy ending. Well, it does have a sort of happy ending.
Warnings: Hints of abuse and mentions of past suicidal tendencies.
Kate and Ana meet up at a restaurant. It seemed like a normal thing to the other diners, but it was anything but ordinary. Ana was wearing a cashmere sweater and a skirt that goes to her ankles. Kate obviously knew why, but Ana wouldn't listen to her reasons why. "You should go to the police," Kate said.
Ana crossed her arms. Kate looked at the bruise on herbest friend, friend, or whatever's wrist. "Why?"
"We had this conversation before. You know why. I can't stand to see you go through this," Kate said.
"You were the one who never warned me. So tell me why you should care." Ana snapped out.
Kate resisted the urge to slap, or strangle her. "I did, when he made you cry and then the stalking."
"Shut up!" Ana shouted at her. It caused heads to turn to look at them. "You don't know him." She added quietly.
"How about your kids? He put Teddy into a mental hospital. He's on suicide watch. He tried swallowing a bunch of pills and slitting his wrists. The kid is fourteen," Kate explained.
"It was Teddy's fault. Fifty didn't make Teddy swallow those pills and cut his wrists," Ana countered.
Kate felt her eye twitch. She fucking hates that nickname. Too bad she's obsessed with that nickname, She thought and sighed. How am I supposed to make her see the truth? "Elliot and I visited Teddy in the mental hospital."
"You did what?" Ana blurted out. "How can you betray me like this?"
"You mean to me, that you never visited your son?" Kate demanded.
"Christian said to me that I can't and that Teddy would fill my head with lies," Ana said.
"You mean, tell you the truth?" Kate said, "Please tell me where do you get those bruises."
Ana pulled the sleeves down. "You don't need to know my sex life."
Kate made a weird face, "Oh that sex life. Is it consensual? Do you use safe words? Do you get the power? Is it sane?"
"Stop talking about it," Ana said. "Why would you visit Teddy?"
"Because I'm his aunt and Elliot is his nephew. We're family. We're supposed to care." Kate said, "And I wanted his opinion on all of this."
"What did he tell you?" Ana asked, sounding like a child throwing a tantrum.
"He's wants me and Elliot to adopt him." Kate said. "Him and Phoebe both."
"You leave Phoebe out of this," Ana snapped out.
"Remember how Teddy came out as bisexual? Christian didn't take that too well because he feared that Teddy and possibly a guy might end up in the papers." Kate asked, "What will happen if Phoebe comes out as a lesbian or bisexual? What will he do? Please Ana. Just sign your kids over to Elliot and me. We will let you visit on weekends and during their school breaks." Kate held up some adoption papers.
She passed them over to Ana who took the papers and looked at it. "But these need Fifty's signatures too." Ana said, "And he will never sign his children to you and Elliot."
"Just somehow trick Christian to sign the papers." Kate said. "Do you want your kids to be safe? I want them safe."
Ana felt tears roll down her cheeks as she sighed the papers and stuffed them in her purse. She was glad that Kate would take care of Teddy and Phoebe, that is, if Christian signed the paper work. Well, she could get him to sign, if he was drunk. She hoped that he won't be mad about it. Or kill her over it. Or kill Kate and Elliot about it. He loves me. He won't hurt me again. Ana thought to herself as she left the restaurant after saying bye to Kate.
